ElevenLabs Output Specs
Choose the output specification before generation. It affects editing, publication, telephone integration and file size.
#Select by destination
- MP3: broadly compatible with courses, short videos, podcast drafts and ordinary distribution.
- PCM / WAV: useful for editing, mastering and detailed mixing.
- mu-law / A-law: mainly for telephony, rather than a content team's default.
- Opus: useful in some streaming systems, with editor compatibility to verify.
#Ask three questions
- Will this audio be published directly or edited further?
- Is file size or post-production flexibility more important?
- Does the downstream system require a particular sample rate or codec?
MP3 may suffice for a course narration; retain a high-quality master for advertising or documentary voiceover.
#Common production mistakes
Mixing MP3 and WAV within one project, starting with an irreversible low-quality export, discovering telephone-format restrictions at launch, and omitting language, voice or version from filenames all create rework.
#Minimum team standard
Agree on format and sample rate. Include language, voice and date/version in filenames. Store distribution files separately from masters.
