Cursor Tab Completion
Tab can extend a code pattern across several lines and suggest subsequent edits. Its value is following the intended implementation, not merely generating more text.
#Basic use
Start a function, variable or explanatory comment, inspect the suggestion and accept it with Tab if it is useful.
jsfunction calculate
This fragment illustrates a starting point, not a complete function.
#Configure deliberately
Start with the installed defaults. Inspect current Cursor settings for completion controls; the Chinese source's cursor.autocomplete.* JSON keys are historical examples, not verified current settings. Avoid automatic acceptance until you can reliably judge suggestions.
#Give a clear starting point
Use meaningful names, explicit parameter/return types and pseudocode for complex logic. A model can extend a known structure more usefully than it can guess a design you have not yet decided.
#Suitable tasks
Repeated component patterns, common data transformations, functions following existing style and implementation from comments/pseudocode are good candidates.
For unsettled architecture, complex state flow or many cross-file constraints, establish the direction in discussion or a multi-file workflow first.
#Know when to reject
Dismiss a suggestion when it introduces an unwanted approach, changes naming conventions or expands beyond the local scope. Accepting and rejecting are equally important controls.
Check Cursor's Tab documentation↗ for current behavior and remapping. Practice completion alongside inline editing: one accelerates a known pattern, the other applies a bounded change.
