DIRECTION / ACTION PLAN

Alex’s role direction and action plan

Target and route

Compare a US new-grad software role with an entry-level role. Read each advertisement for graduation criteria, required skills and work arrangements.

Evidence available

The issue API review contains three complete request/response cases, one validation finding and proposed acceptance criteria. Alex owns the review record, not a production fix.

Gaps to resolve

Implement and run the proposed validation checks before claiming a fix. Separately verify personal work authorisation and employer requirements; no employer experience is claimed.

Next actions

Compare two real advertisements; map duties to the triage evidence; tailor one English resume; practise the debugging story; record actual applications and responses.

Questions for support

Confirm whether relevant coaching, practice or specific recommendation arrangements are available. Agree provider, outputs, timing, fees and terms; keep employer and official decisions separate.

03 / PEOPLE AND PRACTICE

Meet the advisers. Read about the services.

Read the adviser profiles, P3 project details and coaching information before deciding whether to get in touch.

What the practice involves

Review the P3 approach and participation process, connecting tasks, responsibility and outputs.

What is the next step in your search?

This page focuses on the United States. Check role requirements and personal eligibility separately. Specific services and availability need confirmation.

United States

Separate role readiness and work authorisation.

Compare new-grad, internship and entry-level advertisements. Record employer requirements and prepare an English resume supported by your own project evidence.

Check these in your target market

  • Employer graduation and skill criteria
  • Personal work authorisation, where relevant with your school adviser
  • English resume and reproducible technical evidence

YOUR NEXT STEP

Turn a vague opportunity into a specific role or arrangement.

Clarify the actual United States role and any recommendation arrangements. An internal recommendation, a job listing, an employer internship and a learning project offer different forms of support. Clarify which one is being discussed.

What you can do next

  1. Share your target market, role, graduation timing and relevant experience.
  2. For a specific opportunity, verify the role, hiring organisation, recommendation or participation process and next steps.
  3. For paid support, confirm deliverables, provider, timing, fees and terms.

WORK RIGHTS

US graduate jobs: separate OPT, STEM OPT and sponsorship

New Grad describes a hiring category, not work authorisation. Studying in the US, holding an entry visa or receiving an offer does not by itself authorise you to start the role.

Policy checked:

F-1 graduates: OPT must relate to your field

Eligible F-1 students can generally seek up to 12 months of OPT for work directly related to their major. A school DSO recommends it and USCIS decides employment authorisation. Approval, an EAD and the authorised start date matter. Confirm filing dates with your DSO rather than treating course completion as permission to start.

STEM OPT: a technical job title is not enough

Eligible STEM degree holders on OPT may seek a 24-month extension. The employer must participate in E-Verify and complete Form I-983 with the student. Eligibility depends on the qualifying degree, not just the job title. Check separate authorisation, such as CPT, with your DSO for internships during study.

Later work status: ask the employer early

H-1B is a specialty-occupation route involving an employer petition and review of the role and qualifications. An interview does not establish sponsorship or approval. Ask about OPT hiring, STEM OPT responsibilities and future work-visa support, then have the employer’s immigration team confirm the applicable process.

Before you apply or agree a start date

  1. Record your I-20 and EAD details and authorisation dates; confirm permitted employment and reporting duties with your DSO.
  2. For each role, check its relationship to your degree, OPT acceptance and employer participation in I-983 and E-Verify where needed.
  3. Distinguish US F-1 graduates from overseas applicants. An overseas degree alone does not create US OPT eligibility.

This is general job-search information, not an assessment of your immigration eligibility. Rules and individual conditions can change. Check official guidance and your own permission before applying, interning or starting work.

Questions you may have

Where should I start if I have not chosen a role in the US?
Choose a role that interests you and compare two real advertisements with your experience. Read the duties and application criteria before deciding which skills or projects to work on. Compare internship, graduate and junior routes as relevant to your circumstances.
What should I review if my applications get no replies?
Check the advertised criteria, required documents and how clearly your application explains relevant work. Review the employer’s stated process in the US and keep a record of actual applications and replies. No reply alone does not establish the cause. Bring a specific advertisement and application when asking for help.
Is a new-grad role the same as an internship?
Read the actual advertisement. Graduation criteria, duties, duration and application steps can differ; do not infer eligibility from the role title alone.
Does a US degree establish permission to work?
Study background and permission to work are separate checks. For student-related training questions, consult official government guidance and your designated school official. This page does not determine personal eligibility.
Does a referral mean an employer will sponsor me?
A recommendation does not establish sponsorship, work authorisation or an interview. Ask the employer about the specific role and arrangements.
Can I use coursework in an English resume?
Yes, describe its actual learning-project identity, your responsibilities, evidence and limits. The API review below shows a complete example without inventing employment or business results.
What should I bring to a coaching conversation?
Bring a target advertisement, graduation timing, resume and a project record. Confirm relevant support, provider, deliverables, timing, fees and terms separately from hiring outcomes.
